Getting About
Your Swiss card entitles you to discounts on all the mountain railways and gondolas. To get further afield the Adventure Card gives you free travel on 482km of railway and postbus lines in the surrounding area. Visit Saas Fee with Europe's highest revolving restaurant or take the postbus over the Simplon pass to the Italian town of Domodossola (2 day pass £28, 3 days £33, 5 days £43).
Ramblers
The Sunnegga underground funicular and the 100 year old Gornergrat railway will take you up to some real alpine rambles and ecology trails, including the Gorner Gorge with stunning cascades.
Hikers
There is plenty on offer for hikers in Zermatt with over 400 kilometres of sign-posted walking trails. The trails will take you through pine scented forests, over mountain streams, around high altitude lakes and across alpine meadows. As well as just hiking from Zermatt, you can use the mountain railways and cable cars to access some of the many hikes on offer. Your Thomson Walking Guide will provide two days accompanied walks per week to help you discover the area.

Matterhorn Glacier Paradise - £24 return fare The Matterhorn glacier paradise cable car whisks you up to 3,883m, the highest lookout post in the Alps with a breathtaking 360° panorama view of 38 alpine peaks. Here you will also find the world's highest glacier palace, 15m under the surface of the glacier. Schwarzsee Paradise - £13 return fare Take a trip up to the Schwarzsee Paradise where you'll find a beautiful lake, restaurant with spectacular views and some pretty hiking trails. Also your closest view of the Matterhorn!

Twin Centre Suggestion
Combine the glacier resort of Saas Fee with the majestic Matterhorn of Zermatt and enjoy the different atmospheres of these two beautiful mountain towns. Both have a fantastic range of outdoor activities and walking trails as well as spectacular cable car journeys. Take the Metro-Alpin up to the revolving restaurant in Saas Fee and the Rothorn Paradise up to see the sunrise over the Matterhorn.
