Resort Information

The upland valleys of Las Alpujarras lie on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada National Park. It is an area of rustic, rural Spain that has managed to remain unspoiled with olive, almond and lemon groves and is the inspiration for Chris Stewart's famous book 'Driving Over Lemons'.
The villages of Capileira and Bubión are in the pretty Poqueira valley, influenced by the Berber architecture from the Moors and with local bars and restaurants with relaxing terraces for a quiet drink and tapas. Both these villages are fantastic bases for walkers and offer some challenging hikes.

Lanjarón is a spa town 45 minutes' drive down the valley and it is known as the gateway to the Alpujarras. It is famous for its mineral water and has a lovely old quarter, dominated by the Moorish castle on a rocky outcrop.

Getting About

There is a bus service linking Capileira, Bubión and Lanjarón to the valley and the coast and from Capileira to the Sierra Nevada high ground. Car hire is available from Malaga Airport.

Strollers

The villages provide a few gentle paths into the surrounding mountains. Lanjarón boasts a short stroll that should not be missed to the ruined Moorish castle with spectacular views.

Ramblers

Our Thomson walking guide will advise you of some of the fantastic paths through the Poqueira Valley, connecting the villages of Capileira, Bubión and Pampaneira. We also offer some pre-bookable walks with our Thomson walking guide who will explain all the wonders of the region.

Hikers

Recommended by many as the perfect hiking area, as paths link many of the local villages and provide satisfying days out. There is ample scope in Capiliera and Bubión for those looking for something really challenging. One of the most rewarding walks is the hike up Mulhacen. Once at the summit the views are an amazing reward, often over to the north coast of Africa and the Atlas mountains.

To calculate your Twin Centre holiday price, add the two 14 night prices together, divide by two and add £29 per person. Please note that the mountain hotel must be taken first.
