One of the most fascinating and beautiful countries in Europe, Romania and the region of Transylvania is a land of superb mountains, art and culture and this tour allows you to sample this unique area. You will get the chance to really seek out some of the cultural gems whilst exploring one of Europe's undiscovered areas. This 7 night coach tour is fully guided (by a local guide) and you will discover architectural treasures, narrow streets with tiny houses and cobbled passageways as well as tiny shops with antiques. Enjoy the famous painted monasteries, many of which have been protected by UNESCO for many years. This region of Romania is famous for the stories of Count Dracula and you will get to learn all about the fascinating history, together with a visit the the Bran castle, home to the legendary Dracula himself! Staying in locally run hotels, this tour will give you a real insight into this fascinating country. All excursions and entrance fees are included with this tour. Tour Itinerary Day 1 (Sat): UK - Bucharest - Curta de Arges Arrive at Bucharest-Otopeni airport and meet your English speaking Romanian guide who will be accompany you throughout the tour. Transfer in to the capital for a city tour including sights like the Triumph Arch, Revolution Square, the Patriarch Church and Parliament Palace. Drive to Hotel Curta de Arges for dinner and one night's accommodation. Day 2: Curta de Arges - Sibiu - Biertan In the morning start by visiting the Curta de Arges Monastery before moving on to Cozia, one of the oldest monasteries in Romania (14th century). A drive over the Red Tower Pass, and through the Carpathian Mountains will take you into Transylvania. Enjoy a tour of Sibiu with the Bridge of Lies as well as the beautiful baroque and gothic style churches. In the afternoon there is a stop to see a famous German fortified church before checking in to the Hotel Unglerus in Biertan for two nights. Day 3: Biertan - Sighisoara - Biertan In the morning you will visit the largest church-castle of Romania at Biertan before driving on to Sighisoara. Here you will visit the Clock Tower, the birthplace of Count Dracula (Vlad Dracul's house), the old town and there is free time in the citadel before returning to Biertan and an optional farm cart ride. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Unglerus. Day 4: Biertan - Campulung Moldovenesc In the morning we make a city tour of Targu Mures including the famous Teleky library before driving to Moldavia. We make a short stop in Bistrita to visit the cathedral with the highest tower in Romania. After that we drive over the Tihuta Pass, into the Bucovina. In the afternoon we visit the wood museum of Campulung for a real insight about the life in this region before checking in to our hotel. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Cosmos. Day 5: A tour of the monasteries Morning drive to the Moldovita monastery where Mother Tatiana explains the symbols of the exterior wall paintings. A drive over the Obcina Mountains brings you to the Sucevita monastery with its beautiful exterior wall paintings of the church. In the afternoon make a stop at the Voronet monastery, the Sistine Chapel of Romania. The Last Supper, that is represented here, attracts thousand of visitors every year. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Cosmos. Day 6: Campulung Moldovenesc - Predeal In the morning start the drive south, stopping at the Neamt Monastery which was established by the King Stefan the Great. We then drive among the Bicaz Lake Reservoir, through the Bicaz Clammy and arrive at the Red Lake (Lacul Rosu) in the Carpathian Mountains. In the afternoon we drive through the eastern part of Transylvania, though the mountains to Predeal where you stay for two nights. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Ursuleta. Day 7: Predeal - Brasov - Predeal In the morning enjoy an excursion to the city of Brasov, a beautiful medieval town. Visit the Black Church (which is the largest gothic building of Eastern Europe), the old city hall and the Orthodox Church of the old town. Afterwards drive to the Bran Castle, which is also known as the 'Castle Dracula' where after getting to know the legend of the feared vampire, you are taken to Pele's Castle, which was the summer residence of the Romanian royal family of the Hohenzollern. This is one of Europe's most beautiful castles with rooms lavishly decorated with ebony, mother of pearl, walnut and leather. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Ursuletu. Day 8: Predeal - Bucharest - UK In the morning we drive to Bucharest and enjoy a visit at the village museum. There is then some free time at leisure to enjoy the capital's city centre. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for your homeward flight and say good-bye to your Romanian guide.
