Our Opinion
· The perfect way to get away from it all in quiet locations yet close to all amenities · Enjoy the independence of having your own car · All the fascinating historical sights of northern Italy are at your fingertips · The opportunity to sample the excellent varied cuisine of the Garda region.
Getting About
The main cities are easily accessed through a network of modern motorways and roads but the fresh air and breathtaking views of the peaks of the Dolomites make for a more active day. Stroll around the colourful gardens of the Parco Sigurta, near Mantua, the exotic Hruska Botanical Gardens in Gardone or, if you're feeling like a little more of a challenge, take the cable car from Malcesine on Lake Garda to the top of Monte Baldo where there are nature parks rich in rare alpine flora.
Sightseeing
· Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet, is well worth a visit, with its impressive Roman Amphitheatre and elegant shopping streets. · A spectacular drive through the Dolomite mountains, where verdant Alpine meadows and craggy peaks stretch for as far as the eye can see. · Explore the various wine regions south of the lake which are full of vineyards, castles and historic towns and villages. · Drive up into the hills north of Torri del Benaco and stop for lunch in the pretty town of San Zeno di Montagna (named after the Patron Saint of Verona) with its amazing views down over the lake. Further on at the foot of the Monte Baldo mountain you can park and head off walking in the woods.
