Resort Information
Austria's capital lies at the foot of the 'Wienerwald' (Vienna Woods) and on the banks of the River Danube. It is well known for its outstanding music, especially the Viennese Waltz, culture and tradition. Historically, Vienna was the centre of an empire of twelve different nationalities, which still reflects in the beauty of this multi-faceted and cosmopolitan city. Nowadays, 'Fiaker' (traditional horse drawn carriage), 'Kaffeehäuser' (cafés), the 'Ringstrasse' (circular boulevard surrounding imperial sights and museums) and St. Stephen's Cathedral create the essence of this city.
Our Opinion
· Vienna is not only the capital of Austria, but also the centre of music, art and history · The charming city offers something for every taste, superb sightseeing, good traditional food and wine, relaxation and great nightlife · Plenty of attractions of a different manner all over the city make this experience unforgettable · The Viennese lifestyle is reflected throughout the city - traditional 'Kaffeehäuser', popular 'Heurige' and Wiener Prater (amusement park and place of relaxation). Please note: we do not have a Thomson rep based in Vienna.
Getting About
Much of Vienna can be explored by foot, or why not take a horse and carriage ride or boat trip on the 'blue' Danube. The whole city is served by a very efficient public transport service, including trams, buses, underground and trains, which operate regularly throughout the day.
