Resort Information
Wooded shores and calm waters give Millstatt a relaxing atmosphere. The village nestles in a curve of the shoreline and rises up the hillside. A promenade runs along the lake past hotels' bathing lawns. The village centres around the 11th century Benedictine Monastry, with a small square with shops and cafés. Down at the lakeside, board the lake boat service to tour the lake and the other small villages dotted along the north shore, or perhaps try sailing or a gentle canoe trip. From the village centre, climb up past hotels with lovely gardens and even better views, and as you leave the village climb on up into the mountains. Here you find the reason why so many people choose to visit Millstatt - miles and miles of walking routes with delightful views, charming mountain huts serving local delicacies and the Nockalm National Park, a preserve of this wonderful landscape.

Getting About

A bus service links Millstatt with Spittal an der Drau and the mountain spa village of Bad Kleinkirchheim, and the Spittal-Lake Millstatt railway station (11km away). The great value Carinthia Card gives you FREE and reduced price travel on most local transport systems approx. £24 available locally.
Strollers
Take the lakeside promenade for a gentle stroll along the lake. There is in fact a path all the way around the lake if you so wish, or perhaps use the local bus service to walk a little futher and take the bus back.
Ramblers
Climb up into the surrounding mountains to enjoy over 400km of walking routes, much of it in National Park. If that isn't enough, take the local bus up to the mountain village of Bad Kleinkirchheim for even more walking options, and don't forget your swimsuit so that you can have a relaxing dip in one of their thermal spas after your walk!
Hikers
The Nockalm National Park and the mountains surrounding Millstatt offer a wealth of opportunities for those looking to conquer some challenging routes. Mountain huts abound for refreshment, and many paths offer stunning views over the lake.

Twin Centre Suggestion
Lake & lake: combine the historic Strand Marchetti with a stay at the Hotel Vila Park in Bohinj, Slovenia, flying through Ljubljana for shorter transfers. Lake & mountain: combine the Hotel Forelle on the lakeside with a stay at the Hotel Tauernhof in the mountain resort of Kaprun.
